Advice: One Caretaker to Another:

“Don’t think about it. Just do it.”

This was advice from my grandmother to me a while back.  I was talking about my writing.  I was talking about whether I felt I was talented enough to make it.

“Don’t think about it.  Just do it,” is what she said to me.

It was helpful to me in making the decision I made to leave teaching, for a year, I say, and care take and write full time.  Here I am at the start and I am glad to run across that advice again.

This post asked us to pass on advice someone else gave us but I have some of my own to go along with hers:

If you get the chance to be the one to step and and care take for someone in your life, do it.  It’s full of sorrow and, I wont lie, inconvenience.  You’ll have to give up having your life the way you would want it.  But what’s easy to forget is that having that love, those memories, and the satisfaction of doing the hard thing, of not backing away from it, that could be your life the way you want it, too.  It’s a life with no regrets.  It’s a life that’s possible to appreciate every moment, even on the very difficult days, and how many people get that?

Don’t be without support, a village, don’t think you’re super man and can do it all.  You can’t share from an empty cup.  (Another piece of advice I’ve gotten recently.)  But do the thing.  Be that person.  It will be the thing you never regret.

Just for laughs, as I was writing this post today I was getting breakfast together for Babu.  As she was putting her dentures in she bit her finger.  I jokingly told her: “That’s not the way you’re supposed to do it.”

And here was more life advice from her:

You have to try everything!

I hope others would take this advice as well. To me, I feel sad whenever someone who is capable of doing the things that they can do and enjoy doing it but choose to not to do it.
