April A-Z: Lady Stuff

This post is a day late.  Sorrynotsorry!  Husband and I are on vacation and I have one motto:  “Don’t rush me, I’m on vacation!”

Even still, I may have had this posted on time if I wasn’t himming and hawwwing about whether or not to publish it.  I have always been fascinated by this project because I love the glimpse into the past and into who Babu was and always has been.  And I love all things retro!  Well, maybe not all things.  I’m very happy to be living in this century.

Babu is always, almost always, prim and proper in the pages of her diary so one would think there is no information about what (ahem!) “lady stuff” was like back then.  To be honest, I had no idea.  I have always heard things like “You don’t know how good you’ve got it.”  Meaning, having my time of the month is much easier now then it was in say…1940.  So, when I ran across this piece, I was not sure what Babu was talking about at first!

Put myself in a hammock this morning and felt pretty bad when I got home.  Jake washed the car for his trip to Amsterdam in my back yard.  Took me riding and bought me some wine but nothing seemed to help the pains.  However, they subsided while we were watching the fountain.

A double take a reread, and a google search, told me I was right.

Take a close look at this image.  A lot surprised me!

  1. Those elastic waistbands bring back unhappy memories of being 11 years old and having to use them for the first time. Yes, they were still around in the sixties.

I think the 50’s was even more hush-hush about lady stuff than the 40’s, in part because the 50’s were a time of “Everything’s Perfect!” and they didn’t want to address such issues…
